Results Day 2025
Back
Today, August 14th, is results day for Level 3 courses, including A levels, AGQs, tech levels, and T levels. Below you can see reaction, news, and case studies from our member colleges as they celebrate the achievements of their incredible students.
Birkenhead Sixth Form College
Birkenhead Sixth Form College has gone beyond remarkable with record-breaking A Level, BTEC, and T Level results that surpass last year’s outstanding performance, cementing its place among the highest-achieving colleges in the UK. This year’s success is opening doors for students to the most competitive universities, prestigious apprenticeships, and high-quality employment opportunities.
Principal Mike Kilbride hailed the results as a testament to the college’s culture of excellence: “Last year our results were described by independent analysts as remarkable. That we have not just repeated that level of performance but bettered shows that what others define as remarkable is simply what we do; our normal now seems to have gone beyond remarkable. Our fantastic results are not a surprise as they are the consequence of rigorous processes deployed by expert staff in a college where we believe that everything matters. I would like to congratulate the students — they have been a great cohort, they have earned their outcomes and should take a little time to now celebrate their achievements.” He also paid tribute to the dedication of the staff team: “I must also pay enormous tribute to the college staff, all teachers and support staff, who create the environment and ethos that allow our students to succeed. What we do each year is not easy — it requires consistent hard work against extremely high standards. The staff who deliver against this deserve the utmost respect and admiration. It might be a failing of mine, but I do find it difficult to dwell on success. I am already thinking of the next few years and all the exciting developments we have in the pipeline. Birkenhead Sixth Form College is certainly the place to be in the coming years.”
As a non-selective college welcoming students with a wide range of prior attainment, the college is proud that more students than ever - 51% - have achieved the highest grades in their A Levels. This remarkable success reflects their dedication, resilience, and growth over the past two years, and students have secured places at some of the most competitive universities in the country, on courses including medicine, law, and psychology.
Kaitlin (left) said of her time at the college: “The great support from my teachers has helped me through my A Levels and the resources provided by the MDV (Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary) Programme allowed me to practice for the stages of my medicine application such as interviews.”
Student Scott (right, with his mum Jane) achieved A*A*A at A Level, and secured a place at Oxford to study English literature and language. Jane, said: “I am really pleased and impressed with the support that Scott has received from Birkenhead Sixth Form College. His teachers have been excellent and it has been great that he has made a close network of friends at the college to support him as well.”

Today, we come together as a college community to celebrate their achievements.”
Xaverian College, Manchester
Staff and students at Xaverian College are celebrating today as the college enjoys yet another year of tremendous A Level and applied general results. A Level students achieved a pass rate of 99%, with 18 subjects achieving 100% pass rate and over a quarter of all grades at A* or A. Many students are now preparing for their next steps, having secured their first-choice destinations, including with some of the UK’s most sought-after universities and several competitive higher and degree apprenticeships.
Jack Padmore, who achieved A*A*A in chemistry, physics and mathematics and gained a place to study physics at Durham University, said: “I was really happy seeing my results this morning! Honestly, my favourite thing about Xaverian is the friends I have made and my teachers, who have been fantastic. Getting to learn and develop in such an inspiring environment has been great and, whilst I am somewhat nervous about heading to university, I am excited to take the next steps!”
Grace Cooke gained A*A*A in classical civilisation, politics, and French, alongside an A* in her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and will now be progressing to the University of Cambridge to study human, social and political sciences. She commented: “I was really happy seeing my results! My teachers made my experience at Xaverian amazing, they have so much experience and strive to make it as engaging as possible. I quickly became consumed in the content and it was all really enjoyable to learn. I would love to pursue something diplomacy-related after university and I think the skills I have gained at Xaverian have set me up well for this. One of the things that I was taught, and that I think will stick with me, is the ability to process a lot of information quickly and to keep on top of current affairs. I have also developed my confidence and public speaking, which are very important!”
Teerath Singh, who is delighted to secure a place at the University of Sheffield to study economics, achieved A*AB in economics, law and chemistry, said: “I am really happy and certainly wasn't expecting any A* grades! I felt like all of my A Level subjects offered me an opportunity to learn something that will apply to real life, and that was important to me. I know I’ll be the only one to say this, but sitting the exams was my Xaverian highlight! The feeling I had when leaving the exam room for the last time was incredible and it really made me reflect on the journey I had been on over the last two years. Whenever I needed something from my teachers they were on-hand to support, but it was good being able to develop independently, which I know will be useful as I progress to university next month!”
Tony Knowles, principal, commented: “Once again I am immensely proud of our students and the exceptional results they have achieved this year. Their dedication, resilience and determination has truly paid off, and today is an opportunity for us all to celebrate the hard work they have put in over the last two years at Xaverian. Their results reflect, not only the students’ individual talents, but also the unwavering support of our teaching staff, support teams and their families. It is these partnerships, that flourish within the Xaverian community, that make this success possible. We send our warmest congratulations and best wishes to all students as they embark on their exciting journeys ahead!”

She will now progress to Oxford University to read ancient history and classical archaeology. Isabella explained that she had never really considered applying to Oxford before she joined the college, “Oxford University had always seemed like this impossible goal - for the geniuses and the rich kids that go to Eton - so I never allowed myself to get my hopes up. It was when my amazing teacher, Peter Wright, told me how much he believed in me that I realised I could apply. After knowing it would be possible, I began researching about the university and I fell in love with Oxford as a whole as well as my college.”
Talented artist Kenzie Nodwell achieved an amazing clean sweep of A* grades in three separate A Level art subjects - fine art, photography and graphic design. She will now continue her art education at the University of Lancashire with a degree in illustration.

Bede Sixth Form College, Teesside
Celebrations are underway at Bede Sixth Form College where students are hitting their personal goals in what has been an “outstanding” year. There’s plenty to smile about at the college in Billingham where the A level pass rate remains above an impressive 98%. The college saw a 100% pass rate in 17 A level and 19 vocational subjects, and an 8% increase in students achieving the highest A* to B grades.
“I am so proud of what the students have achieved with the support of their tutors and college staff,” said Bede’s principal, Patrick Jordan. “The results are testament to all the hard work and effort our learners put in, all year round. We are happy to see so many achieving the results they need to move on to their first-choice destinations." At Bede, he explained: “We recognise that destinations aren’t always about going to university. While the vast majority of our students do go to university, we have become increasingly successful at supporting those that choose to progress through other routes. This year we have students moving on to incredible opportunities, including some of the most sought-after apprenticeships in their chosen field.” He added: “I am also particularly impressed by the excellent results of our full-time sports students which, once again, demonstrates the standard being set by our Institute of Sport and Education in its work to support developing young talent.”
All of this comes in a year that saw Bede Sixth Form College, part of the Education Training Collective, recognised as an Outstanding provider by Ofsted.
One of the outstanding Bede students being celebrated today is Ben Hillary (left), a Bede Sixth Form College student from Thornaby who has completed academic and vocational courses in history, music technology, and criminology. The music technology enthusiast has been selected from more than 300 applicants to train as a creative venue technician apprentice at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. "When they rang to say I had got it, it was a massive shock,” he said. Applying for the elite apprenticeship, he explained: “I submitted my CV online but didn’t think I would get it.” He added that it felt like quite an achievement to make it through to the second stage, a 10-minute online interview. When he found himself heading for London for the third round, a full-day interview including practical tasks, the reality finally started to sink in. Walking into the theatre for the first time, he said: “It was like seeing into the world I want to go into.” Fortunately, with lots of practical experience behind him, he was more than prepared. Still, with just three positions available, news of his success came as a shock. For his college teachers at Bede in Billingham however, it wasn’t as much of a surprise.

Thomas Rotherham College, Rotherham
More than 700 students at Thomas Rotherham College have been celebrating excellent A level, T level and BTEC results. College principal Joel Wirth said: “These are life-changing results. These are outcomes that will allow students from across our region to progress onto their chosen University courses, or into the apprenticeships and work programmes they’ve set their hearts on. It is one thing to be able to look our community in the eye as an Outstanding college, but that means little to students unless you are able to harness all the expertise and talent of the staff in order to bring about results that really mean something. Today, we are delighted to celebrate with our students as they take their next step. Today is the day when the hard work, the hours of revision, the patient support of staff, the inspirational lessons… when all that becomes a reality. As a college, we see ourselves as an engine of social change. We believe that transforming the life chances of our students brings about enormous social benefit to this area. We’d like all our class of ’25 students to be proud of Rotherham, proud of where they come from, and for our community to be as proud of them as we are.”
Shrewsbury College
Shrewsbury College is proud to celebrate the exceptional results of its students in this year’s A Level, T Level, BTEC and vocational qualifications. The college, which is both Shropshire's largest post-16 provider and the county's only Ofsted Outstanding sixth form or college, saw over 1300 students complete Level 3 courses this summer. A Level results saw a significant increase in the A*/A/B high grades to 49%, outstripping the excellent results from the previous year, with a 98% pass rate overall and 68 students achieving AAA or better. The West Midlands is one of two regions in the UK to see a drop in A level entries receiving A* and A. A level results for the West Midlands show that these top grades dropped from 24.8% in 2024 to 24.2% this year. However, Shrewsbury College saw top grades increase from 25.1% to 29.1%, bucking the trend. This culture of excellence and improvement was partly why Ofsted judged the college to be outstanding in the inspection earlier this year.
The first cohort of 94 T Level students achieved a brilliant set of results which are amongst the very best in the country for these new, highly challenging qualifications, with a 97% pass rate compared with 89% nationally, 29% Distinction* and Distinction grades compared to 16% nationally, and 82% at Merit or above compared with 62% nationally. Just under 400 students also studied BTEC and other vocational qualifications, the equivalent of three A Levels, with 101 students achieving D*D*D* (Triple Star Distinction, the equivalent of three A* grades at A Level) on Extended Diploma Courses and 275 students achieving DDD or better (the equivalent of three As).
James Staniforth, principal of Shrewsbury College: expressed immense pride in the students and staff: "Our students results are a testament not only to their talent and commitment but also to the high-quality teaching and pastoral care they receive here at Shrewsbury College. Whether heading to top universities, competitive apprenticeships, or directly into the world of work, our students are leaving us fully equipped for success. Once again, our students have demonstrated resilience, dedication, and academic excellence and have achieved results that place them among the top-performing colleges in the country. These results reflect the hard work of our students and the unwavering support of our dedicated staff."
Stockton Sixth Form College
Students at Stockton Sixth Form College have achieved record results after nervously making the trip back to college to find out how they had fared in their A-Levels or B-Tec qualifications. The college, which is part of the Atomix Educational Trust, believes it has some of the highest grades in the country in chemistry and maths – two areas where pupils have excelled.
Mike Mackin, head of centre for Stockton Sixth Form, said he was “immensely proud” of every single student and praised the dedication they've shown throughout their studies. In 2025, we have seen another year of excellent results across the board, including A-Level pass rates at 97% - and we are delighted to see improvements on all fronts,” he said. "For the third year running our performance rates have increased, with more students achieving high grades and a continued 100% success rate across all our vocational programmes. We have celebrated so many incredible student success stories today with learners progressing on to excellent degrees including medicine and dentistry as well as achieving outstanding outcomes in engineering and high level apprenticeships. I am immensely proud of every single one of our students and the dedication they have shown throughout their studies.”
Taha Na (Rehan), pictured left with Mike, achieved three A* grades in Maths, Biology and Chemistry, having arrived in the UK in 2022 with no GCSEs, following the sudden death of his father in Pakistan. Due to Stockton Sixth Form College’s approach of treating each student as an individual and being flexible on entry requirements, the college offered him the opportunity to complete his Maths and English GCSEs. He achieved an eight in Maths and a six in English, inspiring confidence that he would be a good A-Level student despite only having two GCSEs. This came despite the fact he started his GCSEs in November - when most colleges have closed their doors for the year - due to the timing of his arrival to the UK. Ecstatic when he received his exemplary A-Level results, Taha said: “For me, it has been a long journey with Stockton Sixth Form College, as I came here after my father’s death from Pakistan and they enabled me to do my GCSEs in Maths and English after I faced many rejections. It took me a year to get my GCSEs and I knew I wanted to go on and do A-Levels to get me into medicine or dentistry. I’m now going to Queen Mary’s in London to study dentistry and I’m looking forward to attending a good university and being on a competitive course, as I’m keen to learn and go on to serve people at the end.”
Sidan Khaland-Kulej got a C in Biology and Distinctions in BTEC Applied Science and BTEC Sport. “They are pretty decent results and I’m happy with them,” he said. "The facilities here have been great and the support the teachers provide has also been really good. They don’t just teach, they support you through the process." Sidan is now going on to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of York. “I want to eventually do research into genetics,” he said, saying he was inspired to pursue this interest through his A-Level Biology course.
Proving it isn’t the end of the world when you don’t get the grades you need, Becky Dumain (right, with Mike and deputy head of centre Michelle Sugden) is off to study medicine at Newcastle University, after being accepted for the course at four different universities. Becky got an A and two Bs when she needed three As – but had impressed so much at her interview that she still kept her place. Becky says: “If it doesn’t go your way, you just have to figure it out – there will always be a path for you so just look around and see what you can do and it will work out.” After experiencing her younger sister being treated by a medical trauma team, Becky now wants to be an air ambulance doctor. “I’m going to train as a trauma doctor and stay in the North East, hopefully working for the Great North Air Ambulance,” she says.
Sefton Sixth Form College, Merseyside
It’s been a successful year at Sefton Sixth Form College, with students receiving their long-awaited results today after sitting their A-level and BTEC examinations this summer. The dollege achieved an impressive 99% A-level pass rate, with the majority of students securing grades A* to C. These results build on the college's recent recognition as one of only two sixth form colleges (excluding 16-19 academies) in Merseyside to hold an Outstanding Ofsted grade and ranking in the top 6% of further education colleges nationwide for A-level progress.
Deborah Faulkner, Campus Principal, said: “We are immensely proud of our students’ incredible achievements this year. Their hard work and determination have led to exceptional results, and it’s great to see so many happy faces. We are excited to see them embark on their new journeys and are confident that our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to achieve great things. We wish them all the best for their futures.” At Sefton Sixth Form College, we are proud to offer a supportive and inspiring environment where each student is encouraged to achieve their full potential. We play a vital role in delivering exceptional A-level education to young people across Sefton and beyond, and these results showcase the hard work of our students and the high-quality teaching that underpins their success.”
Due to the excellent results achieved, many students will now be progressing onto study higher education at some of the most prestigious universities, including the University of Manchester and University of Sheffield. Lois said: “Opening my results slip and seeing that I had achieved A*, A*, A*, was an incredible feeling. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my tutors and all the fantastic people I met during my time here. I’m looking forward to my next step which is studying English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Manchester.”

One of today's success stories is Laibah Latif (left), who received the highest mark in the country on A level OCR psychology - along with two more A*s in chemistry and biology. She said: “I honestly can’t believe it. I didn’t expect it at all. I was delighted with my grades, but I didn’t even think about getting the highest in the country.” After her A* full-house, the Nelson-born student is set to study Medicine at Kings College London from September. Laibah’s dream is to work in paediatrics after her five-year course.
Another is Ryan Armstrong (right), who is celebrating an outstanding achievement by securing the highest grades possible, D* D* D*, in his Level 3 Sports Coach Development Course. The Level 3 course involved a three-week work placement in Salerno, Italy, where he gained practical experience coaching football for children. He said: “I enjoyed getting away and having the opportunity to learn and apply my skills in a different environment.”
Gabija Mazonaite (left) secured a distinction in her Healthcare Science T-Level. The 18 -year-old credited the experience of T-Levels for her understanding of the industry and confidence in her ability to follow her dreams. Gabija’s work placement was spread across East Lancashire’s hospitals, shadowing the experts and learning from them. Speaking about the course, she said: “I loved the way it was structured. There was eight of us on the course and it felt like a family. The placement allowed me to experience what it is like to work in hospitals, and we visited a couple of universities to get a taste for the next steps.” Gabija will continue her development at the University of Lancashire as a part of its operating department practitioner course.

Some phenomenal student success stories are showcased below:
Shenay Rhodes-Hall at Newcastle College has achieved A*AAA* in A level English literature, history, politics, and the EPQ, and will be attending Oxford to study history. With a passion for the subject, Shenay has the ability to analyse events within their wider political and moral contexts, bringing curiosity to every area of her studies. She has embraced every opportunity at NSCG, from a Cambridge HE+ research project on the influence of dictatorships on dystopian fiction, to participating in Oxford’s UNIQ programme and the Sutton Trust Summer School at the University of Cambridge. Shenay’s EPQ, which explored whether the Irish potato famine could be considered genocide, demonstrates her ability to build nuanced, well-researched arguments. Her academic achievements are made all the more inspiring by her personal resilience, since the end of Year 11 Shenay has been supporting her mother through a terminal illness while also helping to care for her three younger brothers.
Halyna Holovatiuk at Newcastle College achieved D*D*D*, the top grade, in her BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design, and is progressing to University of Arts London to study Graphic Design. In 2022, Halyna and her family fled Ukraine, travelling through Poland and Romania to settle in the UK just months before her GCSEs. As well as adjusting to a new culture and education system and learning English as her third language, she achieved excellent exam results and has further flourished at NSCG. She is a thoughtful, highly creative student who takes great pride in her sketchbook. Halyna has proven herself to be a hardworking, ambitious and independent student, even taking on the role of Class Representative.
Jay Palmer at Stafford College has today received a Merit in his T Level in Digital Production, Design and Development, and is going on to a higher level apprenticeship at the Midlands Partnership University Foundation Trust. Initially starting at NSCG on an A Level pathway, Jay quickly realised that a T Level was a better fit for him. Last September, he made the courageous decision to change course, which has proven to be a game-changer. Jay is an invaluable asset in the classroom. He is supportive of his peers, frequently sharing his knowledge and insights to help others. A highlight of Jay’s journey has been his placement with Midlands Partnership University Foundation Trust (MPFT), where he was praised for his proactive approach and ability to take on complex challenges. He enjoyed his placement at MPFT so much he chose to complete hours over and above his placement, leading to him being offered a Higher Level Apprenticeship with the team.
