Chief Executive - Bill Watkin

Bill Watkin joined the Sixth Form Colleges Association as Chief Executive in April 2016. Bill leads and oversees the work of the team and ensures that SFCA represents, promotes and supports all members through his dealings with government, trade unions and other stakeholders. For the last ten years, Bill was Operational Director at SSAT, leading its work on the academies programmes, engaging with academy leaders, sponsors, providers and operators, identifying and brokering the support to meet their individual and collective needs, including through significant DfE contracts.

Deputy Chief Executive - James Kewin

James Kewin joined the Sixth Form Colleges Association as Deputy Chief Executive in January 2012. James is responsible for SFCA’s research, parliamentary and media activities and helps to develop SFCA's strategy and policy positions. He also provides support to members on a wide range of issues and represents the sector in meetings with government departments and agencies. Prior to joining SFCA, James was Managing Director of public policy research specialists CFE. During his time at CFE, James authored a range of influential reports on issues such as widening participation in higher education, graduate employability, youth unemployment and reform in the further and higher education sectors.

Chair – Nick Burnham

Nick became the Chair of the Sixth Form Colleges Association in October 2016. Nick has 24 years’ worth of experience within the sector, starting out as a Teacher of Economics at Peter Symonds College Winchester. He spent nine years working as Deputy Principal at Carmel College St Helens, before being appointed as Principal of Cardinal Newman College Preston in 2012.

Vice Chair - Lynda Allen

Lynda Allen became Vice Chair of the Sixth Form Colleges Association in 2010. She is Governor Representative of the North West Region and is Vice-Chair at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College in Cheshire.

Director of HR Services - Graham Baird

Graham leads on industrial relations issues and pay negotiations with the recognised teacher and support staff unions.

Jony is the main point of contact for membership enquiries and ensures that members receive all the information and support they need.

John Boyle is the Director of Funding and Finance Hub. He provides specialised advice and guidance to members on all funding and finance related issues.

Deborah Perry is the Director of the Governance Hub. She provides specialist advice on all issues relating to governance and clerking.


Liz Winn is co-ordinating SFCA’s work on leadership development and oversees the SFCA Leadership Development Program


Nick Allen leads on the Six Dimensions project, providing bespoke analytics on the performance of our members. He is the Assistant Principal with responsibility for Quality at Peter Symonds College.

Jonathan Godfrey is the former chair of the Council of the Sixth Form Colleges Association, and has been Principal of Hereford Sixth Form College for 18 years. Jonathan is the Director of Hub 6, SFCA’s national network of senior leaders.
