Thanks @Tom_Richmond. In 2026, the #ProtectStudentChoice position remains that diplomas/extended diplomas should continue to be available in 26 and 27. Scrapping them will leave tens of thousands of students without a pathway to HE/work while the new V levels are being developed. https://t.co/wk2AnsnNGN

We're really grateful to be able to hear from Kiera @educationgovuk today about qual reform. Our members have been fierce supporters of #protectstudentchoice so their questions are tough, but we all share a commitment to make the curriculum work at its best for young people. pic.twitter.com/cEnkSh9oSH

One of the biggest issues facing curriculum, assessment, and teaching and learning is of course widespread AI adoption by young people. Here to help us navigate that is @Itsbenwhitaker - thank you so much. pic.twitter.com/ys5U8HkoZI

His analysis is dizzying, but the findings are simple! Great to kick off with Nick Allen @Symonds_College talking about what 2025's results tell us about the sector, with particular insights on SEND, gender, and ethnicity. pic.twitter.com/bTIZ3UxvWX

The calm before the storm: it's our biggest curriculum conference yet, getting underway soon @friendshouseldn. It may be sleeting outside but in here we're looking forward to inspiring discussions on qualifications, Ofsted, AI, leadership, research, and many more.

Spot on @guardian editorial on the @educationgovuk plan to scrap BTECs next year: "If ministers don’t rethink this overhasty move, they risk adding to – rather than reducing – the number of 16- to 19-year-olds who end up underqualified and out of work". theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Young people have been badly let down by the inexplicable @educationgovuk decision to scrap BTECs before the new V levels are available. This will hit disadvantaged students hardest and create, rather than break down, barriers to opportunity. #ProtectStudentChoiceSchools Week (@SchoolsWeek)'We want V-levels to be a success. But at the moment it is difficult to look beyond the huge qualification gap that will open up next year when these BTECs are scrapped, and the tens of thousands of students that are likely to fall through it' schoolsweek.co.uk/if-opportu…— https://x.com/SchoolsWeek/status/1980657658437718483

Our deputy chief exec James in @FEWeek : "Yesterday evening, once the details of the [V level] plan had been published, it became clear that the timing of the government’s reforms was more likely to create barriers to opportunity." Link follows.

Meanwhile tens of thousands of 16 year olds will lose access to fantastic existing quals in health and social care in September 2026. We urge ministers to allow students to enrol on AGQs while the new suite of V Levels is in development. sixthformcolleges.org/380/ne…BBC News (UK) (@BBCNews)New V-level courses to be brought in for students after GCSEs bbc.in/3WeaBdi— https://x.com/BBCNews/status/1980137325544788175

This would further strengthen the case for retaining AGQs that are due to be defunded in 26 and 27. Whatever the future looks like, the immediate priority must be to ensure students have a pathway next year - keeping AGQs in play is the only way to do that. #ProtectStudentChoiceFE Week (@FEWeek)✌️ Breaking: Ministers are poised to announce new V Level qualifications as 'third route' between A-levels and T Levels feweek.co.uk/revealed-v-leve…— https://x.com/FEWeek/status/1973840886392844400

James Kewin, Sixth Form Colleges Association @SFCA_info, calls for more funding, more places and more classrooms to enable more 16-19 young people to study full-time. This will in turn prevent young people becoming NEET. Read his article: bit.ly/A-better-deal-for-16-…
