Bill Watkin, chief executive of the Sixth Form Colleges Association, received a CBE in the King's New Year's Honours. He said:

"It is hard to convey the extent to which this award reflects my extraordinarily good fortune to work with the most talented, dedicated and hard-working SFCA team in the service of the most successful, generous and warm family of sixth form college leaders. It is a privilege to accept this award on behalf of a lot of very special colleagues and friends."

SFCA member college principals Zoe Lewis, of Middlesbrough College, and Angela Foulkes, of The Sheffield College, also received CBEs in recognition of their exceptional service as leaders in FE, while Jayne Clarke, chair of SFCA's finance committee and executive principal of the Pinnacle Learning Trust and Oldham Sixth Form College, received an OBE.
