SFCA welcomes Rebecca Long-Bailey as shadow education secretary

James Kewin, deputy chief executive of the Sixth Form Colleges Association, responded to the news that Rebecca Long-Bailey has been appointed shadow education secretary, saying:

“We welcome Rebecca Long-Bailey to her role as shadow education secretary and look forward to working with her. The immediate priority for our members is to help students and staff through the Covid-19 crisis and that is where our collective efforts should continue to focus. As the sector emerges from this very difficult period it is important that all political parties get behind the priorities we set out for sixth form education at the start of the year. We need to guarantee the long term future of applied general qualifications, ensure colleges are equipped to deal with the demographic increase in 16 to 18 year olds and raise the funding rate to the right level”.
