Mentoring for Governance Professionals in SFCA member colleges
Mentoring is a professional relationship designed to support personal and professional growth. In our context it aims to
- Support individuals new to the profession/sector: Assisting in their transition into the role and the sector.
- Develop established governance professional: Help more experienced individuals become authoritative voices in governance and to have the opportunity to work with a mentor on particular professional challenges
Why Mentoring?
Mentoring offers a range of benefits, including:
- Understanding roles: Gaining clarity on your role and the roles of others
- Technical support: Discussing technical questions and guidance on information sources
- Networking: Connecting with professionals and building valuable relationships
- Professional development: Receiving support and guidance from a seasoned professional.
Duration and Focus
Mentoring partnerships typically last 12 months, involving up to 3 days of support. This support can be delivered through face-to-face meetings, online sessions, or email correspondence. The specific approach will be tailored to the mentee's needs and preferences.
The focus of the mentoring relationship will be determined by the mentee's goals and each mentee will be asked to complete a short application.
SFCA’s role
SFCA will support by identifying mentors and brokering the link between the mentor and mentee. SFCA will provide written templates to assist mentor and mentee to get the most out of the link, including a mentoring agreement and meeting template.
Fees A fee of £450 is payable to the mentor’s college as a contribution to the time allocation of the mentor. This will be invoiced by the mentor’s college to the mentee’s college.
